If we rank on page one of Google, will AI search cite us too?
Not reliably. Ahrefs analyzed 15,000 queries and found only 12 percent of URLs cited by AI tools overlap with Google's top ten organic results. Profound found only 11 percent of domains are cited by both ChatGPT and Perplexity.
The engines choose differently. Perplexity searches live and cites about 22 sources per answer; ChatGPT leans on stable reference sources. Entity pages plus earned third party mentions cover most of the surface.
